Takt time vs cycle time vs lead time: calculate the right clock
A worked shift example separates customer pace, observed process speed and end-to-end delivery time, with practical checks before changing the line.
Elapsed time from a specified start event to a specified completion event.
Production lead time can run from release into production to completed output; order lead time can include order handling and delivery. Waiting, transport, inspection and queues belong to the chosen boundary even when no processing occurs. Compare lead time with takt and cycle time before assuming a faster machine solves a delivery delay.
